I am looking for something along the lines of a memoir like "forgotten soldier", but if you can think of any form, memoir or not, i would like to hear it, appreciate it
WWI works too
I have read Buck Comptons book, it is definitely great, and i cannot wait until the pacific series of band of brothers is released, but I have read most of those books do you have any more? And as for "das Buch" I will definitely look into those
Eugene B. Sledge–With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa. (This is often ranked as the best personal account of the Pacific War. A haunting, moving book).
Belton Cooper–Death Traps: The Survival of an American Armored Division in World War II
Gerald Astor–The Greatest War (WW2 through the words of its participants)
Studs Terkel–The Good War (famous oral history of WW2)
Erich von Manstein–Lost Victories (the great German general gives his side of the story)
Robert Graves–Goodbye to All That (considered the best personal narrative of an English soldier’s experience in WWI)
John D. Billings–Hard Tack and Coffee (classic account of life in the Union army in the Civil War)
Other classic Civil War memoirs:
James Longstreet–From Manassas to Appomattox
Ulysses S. Grant–Personal Memoirs
William T. Sherman–Personal Memoirs
I hope this helps.
So like is there any? I’m an Asian American who really, really wants to serve in the US military but some Americans don’t view me as an "american" just cause im not white. But I still wanna do it. Bad.
Rasicm of any kind is not tolerated in the military. We get regular briefings on this and other hot sensitive topics (like sexual harassment, other "bad" behaviors). Sure, there may be an instance here or there but I have to say that is the exception and such instances are few and far between. In my own experience, I serve (past and present) with many Asians and have never heard them express concern about experiencing discrimination. I’m a Latina and have never experienced racial (or gender) discrimination. I don’t make my race or gender an issue, don’t expect preferencial treatment because of either.
I love the more realistic Tom Clancy like war novels, I’m a big fan of Oliver North. I prefer the books that focus more on the military aspect of war.
One novel is The War in 2020, which sees more flexibility, smaller units, and greater firepower in a conflict 10 years in the future. The novel was written several years ago by an experienced military novelist.
Taking it out about 50 or 60 years, I love Ian Douglas’s Semper Mars, which is oriented on the USMC, and has some very interesting aspects of future war in this century. It is the first in a series.
I always smile when I think of beer cans and Mars and Marines in the same thought.

There are no Black horror writers who have reached the status of people like Steven King, Dean Koontz, or Clive Barker. I will be the first.

What are the effects of World War Two, when it comes to evacuation and the Blitz?
Any help would be appreciated ![]()
The Blitz (or blitzkrieg) changed warfare. The speed of it made it extremely successful to get in and overhwelm your enemy quickly. Most armies employ similar tactics now. You could also say that it made armies highly deployable, instead of having them man garrisons. Consider the U.S. army. They can be deployed anywhere in the world within days. You didn’t have that previously.
I’m not sure what you mean by evacuation, so I’ll leave that to someone else.
Cheers!
I am looking for some books on military and love, and coping and how to make it work in the military world or something of that sort. Can anyone help me, i would like them to be true stories or along that line.
Thanks
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
both represent the wars of their time inside a love story.
